january 1: the first
Happy New Year!
This rabbit, rabbit should be the rabbit, rabbit of all rabbit, rabbits — with it being not only the first of the month, but the first of the whole year. But unfortunately, I (like almost everyone else, it seems) have COVID. So maybe I’ll share my affinity for New Year’s Day and Thoughts On Resolutions another day.
For now, here’s a poem by Lucille Clifton:
i am running into a new year
and the old years blow back
like a wind
that i catch in my hair
like strong fingers like
all my old promises and
it will be hard to let go
of what i said to myself
about myself
when i was sixteen and
twentysix and thirtysix
even thirtysix but
i am running into a new year
and i beg what i love and
i leave to forgive me
I hope the new year and Capricorn season(!) look up from here. And I hope you and yours are healthy and hopeful.
Best of luck,
Elle
P.S. Please send me your resolutions <3
